Qutemol – CIG

In 2008, a multi-touch solution (multi-touch screen + software) had been created for the Center for Integrative Genomics to demonstrate the usefulness of such hardware in a scientific environment.
The aim was to prove that the use of a multi-touch screen to manipulate 3D models of proteins allows a better visualization and manipulation of the content.
In this particular project obtaining a better work efficiency was obtained by the more natural way of manipulating 3D objects, and by an interactive menu that can be called to make the relevant changes to the 3D model.
The software that has been adapted to use with a multi-touch screen is called QuteMol, created by Marco Tarini and Paolo Cignoni of Visual Computing Lab at ISTI – CNR, Italy. The adaptation of the software and the multi-touch hardware had been made by Gergely Nagy.
