The Departement of Civilian and Military Security showed interest in acquiring a system that can provide an efficient way of dealing with crisis situations. The multi-touch technology is the guarantee of the efficiency since it provides a muti-touch, multi-user interface to interact with.
The main goal of the system would be the global management of the security starting from prevention to handling a natural, industrial catastrophe or a major transports accident . The communication would also be handled between the headquarters and the leaders of the intervention units being on site.
This would allow fast decision making since all the information would be reachable in a swift manner all the time. The system wouldn’t be designed to make decisions instead of humans, it would only follow the planned procedures and advise the group about the next step and a level of completion of the current task. So in one word, it would be a tool to make the decision making process fast and reliable by providing up-to-date information for all.

Besides crisis management, the system would allow the monitoring of the prevention program. This part would mainly take care of the companies/industries who stock or deal with dangerous materials. All of these companies are subject to keep an up-to-date liste of the materials and also to have a crisis management plan in case of an accident (fire for example).
The system would maintain all this information up to date in the central database, so this would allow the monitoring personnel to acquire the necessary information and to take the adequate actions to control any situations on the same platform.

A basic mock-up of the prevention module.
